A PFC (power factor correction) function corrects phase shifting between voltage and current by providing a triangular waveform current to inductor, then controlling the average current of the triangular waveform to be sinusoidal.

There are two modes as follows.

・Continuous current mode (CCM) --- for mid./large power over 600 W
・Critical current mode (CRM) --- for small/mid. power under 300 W

CCM PFC ICs and CRM PFC ICs are different from each other. Also, CRM mode can be single or interleaving.

CRM Single & CRM Interleave

CRM single(for small power, below 300W)
CRM Interleave (for to mid./large power, 300W-1kW)
Two sets of MOSFET, inductor and diode work alternatively in interleave PFC
